There is nothing like homemade french fries. My favorite restaurant fries are McDonald’s, Popeyes and Jack in the Box’s curly fries.
Neither of these restaurants can hold a candle to homemade french fries. Homemade french fries are the freshest tasting fries ever.
They are crisp on the outside and somewhat soft on the inside. Trust, you will not want to eat restaurant fries as often after trying this recipe. Don’t believe me, find out for yourself!
They don’t have to be perfectly cut!
Make them your own! I don’t get overly obsessed with things like that and you shouldn’t either. As long as you don’t overcrowd you’re frying pan/add too many fries at one time, they will still come out cooked evenly.
I have done this plenty of times trying when I was in a hurry and trying to get done with dinner and the fries did not come out evenly.
They are still good, but will not have the even color through all of the fries as you see pictured.
You will need:
- Russet potatoes
- Seasoned salt
- Black pepper
- Vegetable oil
Steps to make this recipe:
Heat oil in a skillet or pot for 20 minutes on medium heat. Place fries in the oil ensuring that all are covered with oil.
**You may need to fry in separate batches.
Fry for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
In the past, I would season the fries with salt and pepper, but sometimes I need a little pizazz. Hence the seasoned salt and a little black pepper.
After transferring your fries from the oil to a paper towel, season the fries. You don’t want to wait until the fries start cooling off.
The seasoning “sticks” to the fries better when they are fresh out of the oil. You can also season your fries prior to cooking them, but the seasoning “sticks” better when you season them after they are done.
Peeling and cutting the fries are the longest part of the process. If you want to pre-prep the fries, once they are cut place them in a bowl of cold water.
This will prevent the fries from turning brown and will preserve them until your ready to cook them.
The potatoes will make the water a little starchy/cloudy, so give your fries an extra rinse and then drain the excess water before cooking.
Cook your fries for about 20 minutes or until they are golden brown and you will have the best french fries that you have ever tasted!
