Starting a blog is not as difficult as it may seem. You can start a blog in less than 30 minutes and be well on your way to developing your passion. You don’t have to be a food blogger like myself, your blog can be about anything that you are passionate about. It’s really as easy as 1, 2, 3.
Let me show you how is it really is!

3rd Step: Making it Beautiful
Domain Name and Hosting
First, decide what you want your domain name to be. The domain name is simply the name of your blog or website and will be included in your URL. Always choose a few names in the event that one of your names is taken.
Head to Bluehost and type your chosen name in the search box to determine if the name is available. Once you’ve determined what names are available, it will be easier to narrow it down to one.
What is Bluehost? It is recommended that your website use a hosting site like Bluehost. A hosting site is like a house in which your blog/website is “kept”.
Using a hosting site along with Wordpress.org for your website allows you to have more control over your website.
Why chose a hosting site?
- Full website customization ability.
- Ability to add WordPress plugins to your site.
- Ability to make money through ad revenue.
- You can create memberships, courses, sell merchandise/products and so much more!
Another perk is that when you signup with Bluehost, your domain name is included for free!
Pick a domain name:
Pick a plan:
I recommend starting with the basic plan. You can always upgrade your plan in the event that you need more storage to handle the traffic coming to your website.
I also strongly recommend purchasing a 36-month plan. This way you won’t have to worry about renewing for 3 years and are able to take full advantage of the introductory rate.
That’s less than $200 for all three years! What’s also great about Bluehost is that their plans include the following features:
- A Free Domain Name (the name/URL of your blog).
- A Free SSL Certificate (changes your website from http to https)- shows that you are operating as a secure site.
- Free 1- click WordPress install
- Free 24/7 support
Below are the plan extras that you can choose after selecting your plan. You can select or de-select as many options as you like.
I recommend at least choosing the Domain Privacy Protection. This protects your personal information from being available to anyone on the internet.
Next, fill out your information:
You are asked for basic information as you see below and your payment information.
Once Bluehost has been purchased, you all be redirected to install WordPress. One-click and that’s it. Isn’t that awesome?
Congratulations, you officially have a blog! Now we need to work on making it stand out.
Making it Stand Out!
You are officially a blogger, but you want to stand out right? There are several free themes available; however, using a paid theme gives you more customization for your website.
Genesis Framework is the framework I used for my site.
The Genesis framework is included with the theme purchase. The Genesis Framework is the powerhouse for your theme. The theme is the design template for your website.
Studiopress provides instructions for each theme to assist you with installation and customization.
